Privacy & Student Data

How FluencyPals keeps young readers' data safe and compliant.

Our promise to families

FluencyPals is built for young learners. We collect only what a teacher needs to track reading practice: a child's first name, a class code, a short PIN, their reading recordings, and teacher notes and scores. We never ask children for emails, phone numbers, or home addresses.

COPPA compliance

Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), schools and teachers act on behalf of parents when using classroom tools. Teacher accounts control all student data. No advertising, profiling, or third-party data selling ever takes place in FluencyPals.

FERPA compliance

Student recordings, scores, and progress are education records protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Only the signed-in teacher who owns a class can view that class's students and recordings. Access is scoped per teacher account.

Audio recordings

Reading recordings are stored securely and are only accessible to the student's teacher through the authenticated dashboard. Recordings are used solely to review reading fluency. Teachers may delete recordings at any time.

Data retention & deletion

Teachers can remove students, classes, passages, and recordings whenever they choose. Deleting a class removes its students. Removed recordings are marked deleted and are no longer served.
